Professor Jeff Bennetzen’s CV 

Professor Jeffrey Bennetzen is the Norman and Doris Giles Professor of Molecular Biology and Functional Genomics at the University of Georgia, who is a world famous geneticist and plant genome expert. He achieved his Ph.D from University of Washington in 1980. He is a member of the American Academy of Sciences, a member of foreign 1000 Talents Program of China, and awarded the title of State Specially Recruited Experts. Since 2013, he has become a professor in Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences and built a research group which has conducted researches on genome and germplasm of Rice, Millet, Bamboo, drinking tea and oil tea etc plants, as well as cooperated with quite a few national famous research teams.

His lab has been the global leader on the study of plant genome structure and evolution in the past 30 years, and more than 200 papers has been published on journals such as Nature, Science, Nature Genetics, Nature Biotechnology, Plant Cell, PNAS, and other global top impact academic journals. He is an editor or associate editor for the journals of Plant Cell, Biotechnology for Biofuels, Mainstream journal, the Current Annual Reviews in Plant Biology, Mobile DNA, PNAS journal, and so on. His overall research grants exceed 140 million, and 14 worldwide important prizes have been awarded.

Professor Jeffrey Bennetzen also pays close attention to the development and utilization on crops of developing Countries, and has been undertaking a broad and deep research in this field. His achievements attract extensive attention in global plant science world.

Research interests and undergoing projects: 
           Professor Jeffrey Bennetzen, by using molecular biology, bioinformatics, and genomics, has conducted a long-standing research on 1) Crops’ sequence and gene of whole genome, 2) Crops’ genome structure, evolution and rearrangement, 3) Crops’ trait related genes, 4) Crops’ resources and genetic diversity, 5) Crops’ disease resistance and stress resistance.
