Our research field is traditional Chinese medicine. We try to understand WHAT substances are responsible for the function and therapeutic indications of TCM and HOW they work alone or together. Generally, we are curious about any TCM which is most impressed on their distinct efficacy in clinical practice. Actually, our favorite direction is chronic renal diseases including diabetic nephropathy and organ fibrosis, brain-related disorders including anxiety, learning and memory. From 2007 to present, we have studied more than 30 TCM species, around 2000 compounds were isolated and characterized. Oriented screening led to the discovery of several active substances. We have a small team but published 54 papers, and 38 of them are seen in international journals. We have also applied 20 domestic patents. Among the active compounds, one NMDA receptor antagonist supported by the 12th five-year plan from National Ministry of Science and Technology, one smad3 selective inhibitor and one cell cycle inhibitor for the treatment of cancer is entering into drug delopment.
