More than 150 novelcompounds including 7 new type of indole were isolated from 30 plants in 5 years. Some indole alkaloids showed potential antitumor active both in vitro and in vivo. More than 40 papers have been published in international journals, and indole alkaloids with promising bioactivities were patented. Furthermore, on the basis of preclinical evaluation of total indole alkaloids from Alstonia scholaris, IND (investigational new drug) has been approved for clinical trial (phase I and II) by SFDA of China.
