Based on pharmacophylogenetic study, our group found the genus Ypsilandra was a new rich resource of pennogenin saponins and their extracts showed significant hemostatic and uterine contractility activities. The main active constituents have been obtained. Total steroidal saponins from Ypsilandra thibetica for the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) are undergoing the preclinical trials. The key technologies of the sustainable utilization of the genus Ypsilandra have been solved. Besides, more than 100 new compounds including C-28 steroids, steroidal saponins, and terpenoids were isolated from 10 medicinal plants since last 5 years. Some of them showed very interesting anti-diabetes and antitumor activity in vitro and in vivo. More than 30 papers have been published in international journals.
